      Seal and Walrus

Seal and walruses are large mammals. These animal are known as pinnipeds, which include seals, sea lions and walruses. Walruses have two long white tusks. Seal and sea lions do not have tusks.

      Differences

Sea lions are eared seals while seals and walruses do not have external ears. All pinnipeds have fin-like feet or flippers for movement. Seals have rear flippers that point backward and help them move in a vertical motion. Sea lions and walruses rotate their hind feet forward under the body and move by supporting their body on the limbs.

      Walrus Tusk

Walruses have tusks that are about one meter (about 3 feet) long. The tusks can be even longer in some males. Male walruses use their tusks for fighting. Both male and female walruses use their tusks as hooks for climbing on ice and for digging out their food, such as shellfish.

      Largest and Smallest

The elephant seal is the largest seal, weighing more than 2,200 kilograms (about 4,884 pounds). The smallest seal is the ringed seal, which weighs only 50 kilograms ( about 110 pounds).
Stellar sea lions are the largest sea lions. Sea lion pups are born with a dark brown coat,
Which becomes reddish-brown as they develop. Stellar sea lions feed on other seals and seal pups.
